Overview

Hancock Regional Health leadership needed an online appointment scheduler that employees of partner organizations could use to manage their appointments at any of the client’s three HealthWorks clinics. BoxCrush built this HIPAA-compliant feature.

BACKGROUND

Hancock HealthWorks clinics were spending an excessive amount of time on scheduling and rescheduling appointments and managing prescription refill requests. Leadership needed software that could help reduce time spent on administrative tasks. Because patient data was being transmitted and stored in a database, the functionality had to be HIPAA-compliant.

CHALLENGE

Hancock HealthWorks clinics partnered with several organizations to allow them to schedule appointments and prescription refills through one centralized scheduling tool. The scheduler needed to reflect only the available appointment times, without HealthWorks staff needing to make complex updates on the website. The scheduler also needed a workflow for refill requests.

SOLUTION

Using the Sitefinity framework, BoxCrush built a secure scheduler with a back-end widget that allowed staff to quickly and easily update appointment availability. The custom functionality of this scheduler also triggered a workflow when a patient made a refill request, then notified the patient when their prescription was ready. BoxCrush also built the functionality to allow different rights and privileges for each user group. We achieved HIPAA compliance by enabling encryption both while data was in transmission and also while it was stored in the database.
