5 Reasons to Review Your ‘Boilerplate’ Content

When was the last time you looked at your “About Us” content? Or the language in your standard service agreement? If it’s been a while, now’s a good time to review it – and here are five reasons why you should do that once a year:

1. Legal Requirements

New data privacy laws have demanded more transparency from businesses that collect personal information. Ask your legal team to review your privacy policy, to make sure the language is compliant with applicable laws.

2. Outdated Statistics

The speed at which technology evolves means that devices and processes quickly become outdated – and so do statistics. So, if your website content includes statistics about the average number of monthly Facebook users, or the percentage of people who own smartphones, you probably need to update those figures.

3. Evolution of Services

The way you describe your products or services may change over time. Wherever those descriptions live – in your sales materials, on your website, in your Amazon store – make sure they are consistent and up-to-date.

4. Brand Name Changes

In the past few years, Google AdWords became Google Ads, Telerik Sitefinity became Progress Sitefinity, and SEOMoz became Moz. If you reference other companies on your website, check to see whether their names have changed.

5. New Capabilities

Maybe your evergreen content was created before you had an in-house writer or graphic designer. Or maybe your website pre-dates “mobile-first” design principles. If you have the talent and knowledge to improve your content and how you present your brand, there’s no reason not to. And if you don’t have the resources to refresh your content and improve your website engagement, BoxCrush can help.
