Founder and President
Dan Finney began producing websites in 1997 while working as a designer for a local Indianapolis ad agency. Back then, web design classes didn't exist, but he had a curious mind and wanted to understand what made websites work. He learned to code mostly by looking at the source code of existing sites on the web and experimenting with what he found.
He knew the future of marketing was the internet, but the ad agencies wanted to treat the web as another collateral piece – they thought of websites as electronic brochures. He left the marketing and ad agency world, incorporating in April of 2002 as a solo freelancer. He began hiring developers, then marketing people, and eventually designers, as the workload increased. At some point, his wife asked politely to have the house back, and so he moved the employees out of his living and dining room filled with desks and into a real office space.
The company continued to grow and became BoxCrush, Inc. The trademarked name is a nod to the company's out-of-the-box approach to internet marketing.
BoxCrush® has evolved into an digital marketing, website development, and design company that services not-for-profit organizations (Kiwanis International, Ronald McDonald House of Indiana, USRowing); manufacturing companies (General Motors, AirBorn, Mi-Tech Metals); food & beverage (Red Gold, Rose Acre Farms); healthcare (Hancock Regional Hospital, Parkview Foundation); transportation; fraternities (Delta Sigma Pi); IT companies; and other businesses nationwide. Dan has led BoxCrush in developing unique online marketing approaches that help set his clients apart from their competition.
Dan's strengths lie in his ability to translate a company's brand identity into visually interesting, easily navigable, user-friendly websites – each one unique to the company it represents. Dan oversees all aspects of operations at BoxCrush, but he never micromanages – he hires outstanding talent and trusts the decisions his employees make. The growth BoxCrush has experienced in recent years is largely due to Dan's capabilities in management, creative direction, and talent recruitment.
Dan is a geek, no getting around that – but he's a well-rounded geek. In addition to geeky stuff, Dan is a husband, the father of two beautiful daughters, and he's a middle squeezer (think toothpaste). He loves building things for his kids, playing video games, doing projects around the house, scouring iTunes for obscure Irish punk rock songs, and going off-roading in a bright red Jeep. Dan is a past board member of the American Advertising Federation (AAF) Indianapolis.
